Dr. Hollowell specializes in all spinal surgery with a particular interest and expertise in complex spinal disorders including degenerative spinal disease, chronic pain, spinal trauma. Specialized surgical procedures include microsurgery and minimally invasive procedures, as well as cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral surgery for degenerative spine disease, stenosis, herniated discs, instability and back injury. Procedures include comprehensive spinal instrumentation, decompression and single or multiple level fusion.
As a nationally recognized expert in spinal surgery, Dr. Hollowell has taught Spine Surgeons throughout the U.S. and from other countries. He has published numerous book chapters and scientific articles in leading Spine Surgery text books and journals. He has taught courses for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Joint Spine Section to Neurosurgeons on techniques of spinal instrumentation, reconstruction and fusion. He has authored many chapters and scientific articles in Neurosurgical and Spinal Surgery textbooks and journals on a variety of topics including spinal trauma, tumors, degenerative spine disease, spinal biomechanics, osteoporosis and surgical techniques. Dr. Hollowell practiced at the Medical College for 10 years as an Associate Professor and Associate Program Director. He also trained Neurosurgery Residents and Spine Surgery Fellows.
